I don't think that's odd at all.
Exotic doesn't necessarily mean the best.
CBB's coastal vacation looks wonderful, too.
Sometimes the best vacation is simply good people, mellow vibes, and the elements of the trip falling perfectly into place.

October 2000, first time I left Texas! We drove to Washington DC, stayed three days in North Carolina, which of course I fell in love with It was a wonderful trip, first time I ever saw mountains and fall colors. And seeing all the monuments was so moving.

I love this question!! Thank you!
So many experiences...... I think among my bestest memories are:
Petey the blue Budgie bird in Toronto, Canada every summer, who lived with my aunt and had such soft, warm feathers and a mad sense of humor
Road-tripping with two other girls right after we graduated together from college. From NYC up to New Hampshire's Mount Washington where the strongest wind on earth has been measured. We stayed on top of the mountain overnight, got up for sunrise, and when I opened my mouth to speak I had cloud in my mouth
Gambling with my best friend in the casinos in San Juan, Puerto Rico at night, and getting sunburned on the beach during the days
The endless stillness and fragrance of the forests in the Japan Alps in northern Japan. The ancient, rain-sodden cedar trees in Nikko, Japan rising endlessly like green dreams into the sky
The absolutely best Chinese food I've ever eaten, in a small street restaurant in Singapore
Seeing colors from pink to purple in the Calico Mountains in the Mojave Desert in southeastern California, and seeing the specks of silver and fool's gold in the rocks
Making friends with a wild Kaibob Squirrel -- with tall tufts of fur on the tips of its ears -- in a forest in Flagstaff, Arizona where I parked my RV for a month
Gazing into the eyes of a wild mountain lion one dusk in northwestern Montana
Petting a Magellanic Penguin. On two different days. At SeaWorld in Orlando, Florida. Be still my heart: a lifelong dream come true
In the Peruvian Andes, zenning out with hummingbirds way up in the cloud forest at Machu Picchu. And sharing love with a Great Dane in Urubamba, Peru for a silent hour one twilight. And having a small sweet striped cat sleep on my stomach in Pisaq, Peru for most of a day while I acclimated to the altitude in the Andes
With a team of sled dogs in Fairbanks, Alaska being unable to not laugh in joy because of their barking glee that we would start running in a couple of minutes
Being carefully inspected by several Ravens -- peer, gaze, peer -- sitting on the bench next to the one I was sitting on in Sitka, Alaska. At the Arctic Circle where I walked alone, a Raven circled close above me and called "Hello!"
Feeling breathless and ancient and somehow weightless and eternal in the Quinault Rain Forest, Washington where green silence is broken only by birdcalls and the whisper of faerie wings...

I've slept in all states in the US, except for Maine, Vermont & New Hampshire. That will be a great vacation when I move back to the States sometime. Camping on Mt. Washington, visitinging friends in Vermont and the Maine shore.

My Germany Trip
December 25th, 2005 - I fly to Atlanta Airport from Birmingham, AL and wait at my gate to board a plane to Frankfurt, Germany. I meet a young girl, Lexi, who is strangely going to Germany on Christmas day for the same reason as I....to stay with some exchange student friends, party and experience Europe. We have an amazing time and 8 hours goes by effortlessly. I arrive in Frankfurt, my friend Julia picks me up in her friend Kathrin's borrowed Volkswagen Polo. We go to a cabin in the Bavarian Mountains and stay for 2 days. I can't explain the beauty of this place no matter how hard I try. It is truly magical. We leave for Berlin. We stay in the suburbs of Potsdam at Julia's parents. We go shopping, hit up cafe's and record shops, TRY to stay warm (the only shoes I brought were Chuck Taylor's), tour castle's in Potsdam, meet up for drinks with my other German friend, make more great connections and smoke a doobie on someone's doorstep and the person come's home right in the middle of it. New Year's Eve arrives, Julia and I drink vodka and orange juice on the tram on the way to a house party. Do more shots with these candy packet things and then light fireworks and yell at 12:00. Then a gang of about 20 of us walk down the street, we walk into random bars and they are just passing out shots and we take them, pretty drunk and we get on the train to a club everyone wants to go to. A man sits down next to me on the train and he looks like he has leperocy on his hands. He decides to give some skin and a pound to a guy in our group, and we are all like "NOOOOOO and laughing and cracking up" but he still did it anyways. We get to the club and its so dark and there is very loud House music playing and its very crouded. I have some tequila with this guy that looks like MCA from Beastie Boys. Then I dance some more and meet this pretty brunette. We go outside to talk and I tell her I'm American, she tries to hit me, then I say I'm just kidding I'm Canadian, then she starts to french kiss me. It was awesome. It gets late and my friend is going to go home with this other guy so I decide to leave with the brunette. We get on the train and she meets some friends of hers and decides to go to another party. I am exhausted and I just want to go back to my friend's house and crash. I get on a train hoping I end up back in Potsdam and pass out. When I wake up I am at my stop. I get out and start walking for 2 hours back to her house. I feel like the only person existing. I get back to the house and crash on the sofa, my toes bleeding from the fierce dance session last night. I sleep for two days. The next day we go to a concentration camp. Then, Julia and I and her cute friend Katha are off for Amsterdam for a day. We walk around, eat oriental food, get high in a coffee shop, watch people ice skate, wander the red light district, then finally head back home. Julia and I then go to Dusseldorf in the Volkswagen. She was attending college there. We smoke hookah and go for bike rides down to the Rhine. I finally meet her friend Kathrin, the one who let us borrow her car, and we have beers one night and walk drunkly through the streets singing. The next night, my last night in Germany, we have a nice vegan dinner at Kathrin's house and Kathrin and I stay up and talk and enjoy each other. Julia passes out, and when she wakes we decide to go back to her dorm. I demand Kathrin come along so she does and she and I stay up all night together. When I get to the airport I feel horrible. So many rich experiences, meeting people who I still have great connections with, it was great! I need to do these things more often!
