My husband, a Aussie, wants to travel by train from Dallas, Texas to New York city. He will be doing this in April 2009. Can anyone tell us the approximate cost (one-way only), and is there anything he should perhaps avoid?

Thank muchly
Jennifer

Hi

I have looked at that a few times. Go to I think it is Amtrak.com or Amtrack.org one of those & you can see a one-way pass & two way pass. you can choose which car to be in & everything, it's a nice website. I am thinking around 200 or 300. The price also depends on the day he goes. It is just as much to fly I think but Amtrak is a nice way to go.

Hope I helped

I would not travel Amtrack in coach for a 3 or 4 day trip... First class is a must. I made several trips with Amtrack to NY from Chicago, to LA from Dallas, to Tampa from Dallas, to Chicago from Denver...

I would do it again but only if it's first class. You get your own shower and bathroom, a personal attendant for your car, refreshments, etc... You get to meet people, a laptop and movies are a must too.

The cost was around 1500 round trip for every trip from what I remember.

Amtrak
