So dream with me...This cali family is really down in the dumps with this weather! From the triangle area...rdu or clt airport where would you fly for sun & beach?

Affordable vacation destinations for a family of four. 5K and below .... flights and acommidation included. I welcome your 2 cents worth.

PLease fill me in if you have other destinations you love.

thanks in advance!

I spent a month in Costa Rica summer before last to study Spanish. I would go back in a heart beat! Here is a previous thread with links I provided.

I voted Cancun & vicinity, but I would land in Cancun and get outta that town as quickly as possible...just not my style. I'd head north to Isla Holbox or south to Playa, the Mayan Riviera, Tulum, etc...

Other reasonably-priced destinations would be Puerto Rico, Bahamas, Nicaruagua, Honduras, & Panama. Costa Rica is one of the most expensive areas in Central America, so I'd personally avoid it.

Might I also add the Dominican Republic. It is pretty cheap compared to other places and most resorts on the island are all inclusive. Very beautiful country.

I also really liked Barbados. We got a good deal a couple of years back and enjoyed our week there. There is a lot to do an see and you can rent a car to take a drive around the island in one day (19 x 10 miles). It was fun driving through the country side and getting lost trying to find our way around. Just be aware that they drive on the left hand side of the road.

I had looked at flights to Cancun a couple weeks ago and at the time they were running <$200 a person. The only concern would be when you are going...if it's March you might want to stay away because of college spring break.

$5k for flights and accommodation is not a deal at all. Maybe if you're going on an extended vacation to Europe with 4 people.

Ambergris Caye, Belize-warm, laid-back, trips to snorkel, fish, other islands, Mayan ruins. Stay at an inn with a kitchenette, then rent a golf cart or ride bikes (often provided by the inn) around the island.
Ambergris Caye, diving, fishing, coral reef diving vacation!

i co-sign the ambergris caye suggestion as well as spring training (although I prefer mine locally in AZ style)

$5k for a family of 4 isn't too bad - for a week you are looking at $2k for a flight and hotels at a near minimum anyplace where there is spring break type stuff going on - if you keep meals to around $40 per person per day there is another grand over the course of the week

haven't gotten into transportion, sight seeing, etc
