I will be traveling next month from Florida to Utah and then to California. I'm really undecided which way is the best to travel. I have been the southern route cross country, but since I will be going to Utah I know going that route will put extra miles on my trip. Of course if I go the northern route I will hit the snow and may end up taking just as much time. Can anyone recommend the best route?
Either way it is pretty boring. I would go for the southern route if you are going for speed. Go through the northern states if you have time for something different.
8-10 is safe and boring. 40 is a good choice - pretty at places, chances of hitting the snow are small, you can take a 2-3 hour detour to the Grand Canyon if you like. Cut from 40 to 15 across Hoover Dam. 70 is scenic, but it occasionally gets closed in Colorado due to snow. Not much chance of that in March, but it's a possibility. Be sure to check road conditions before taking off.
What about driving from FLorida straight to West Hollywood California in late January 2010? WIll I hit bad snow? Is 40 still my best bet and I will definitely detour and visit the grand canyon!

FL to AZ; your shortest route is I-10 all the way. You can still detour North in AZ to see the Grand Canyon.
Relocating from Southern California to Charlotte, North Carolina at the end of January. I know the I-40 is my most direct route, but I am worried about the weather and going through any mountain ranges. Would the I-10 and I-20 be a better route? Does any one know how long that would take? What other routes are there? Anyone ever make this cross country trek in winter that would like to give me some advice? Much appreciation for any information I can get!
Anniesayshi, the "search" function at the top of the page is your friend! This topic has been covered ad naseum over the past year or so. Rather than go thru all the info yet AGAIN, please do some reasearch and ask any specific questions that weren't covered. Although I believe even the very changeable weather atop Flagstaff Mountain in AZ was covered...
