Try The Smoky Mountains in Tennessee. Go to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge andn those boys will stay busy all day. Take them up in the Smokies and have fun too. Lots of hiking trails, rivers and streams to wade and swim in.

But, no matter where you go, I hope you and the boys have a great time. The best part of any vacation is getting away from home for a while.

Depends, each age will be interested in different things...but Wash DC is special if you have never seen it. Its not cheap, but worth the experience.

i'd definitely look into DC - maybe stay outside the city, but on a transit line - you can find some lower cost hotels on the fringes

take the train into the mall area and the museums are great with enough variety to entertain all - plus the monuments, etc

you could then also make a run to the beach and explore the areas around DC that can be a bit more laid back

also, since it's a free ticket might as well hop coasts

My oldest son has already been to DC, went with the 8th grade trip several years back. He would like to go somewhere else, although he said Busch gardens would be nice again.

Florida was another place the boys mentioned. The tickets will not be ready until toward the end of summer and yes we will be flying out of Portland.

I think the most part of this vacation is it will probably be the only one we ever get to go on as a family so I would like it to be fun and an experience they will remember for a life time. Again we don't have a ton of money so great money saver idea's as well as locations would help to make these childrens dreams come true.

Since you live on the West Coast, I suggest somewhere on the East Coast. If I had money now, I would go somewhere totally different. I was born and raised in the East (northeast). I would like to go to Texas or New Mexico or somewhere with different topography, you know, deserts...cacti...

We currently live on the coast, our house is only a mile from the ocean. Deal is here on the Oregon coast, it is windy and rainy and the water is freezing alot of the time. I love seafood. Is there a good place on the East coast to catch crab and such from like a dock similiar to the way we do it here?

I think Gatlinburg Tennessee would be a good place that they would enjoy. Not only do you have the Great Smoky Mts, but you have alot of tourist attractions in the area too. Lots of Go Kart tracks, miniature golf, souvenir shops, all kinds of things that kids would enjoy.

What do they enjoy? Hiking? Water? Museums? Amusement parks? Wilderness?
