Hi. My husband is turning 40 in January, 2010 (I know I'm starting my planning early!). We are going away for the first time for a few days. We are going to drop our children off with family in West Palm Beach, FL. That is where my dilemma begins. We used to live in Florida so going somewhere within the state doesn't excite us. We've been to St. Thomas and St. Marten, as well as the Bahamas and Jamaica. If someone has a great idea in St. Thomas or St. Marten, we'd go back in a second -- but definitely don't want Bahamas or Jamaica.
We're not looking to paint the town red--just want to relax, unwind and eat great food. Any ideas for a good vacation within a short flight to Florida? PLEASE???
We go to French St. Martin every year for 10-12 days. We do not go in January, as that is high season, and we can stay twice as long if we wait until the summer.
We stay at Esmeralda Resort on Orient Bay. The accommodations aren't terribly fancy, but they are comfortable, and the beach is gorgeous down at that end. Take a look at Tripadvisor.com, for hotel recommendations.

Sounds like you want a cruise. I never thought I'd like cruising, but we went a little over a year ago on our first one, and last year on our second. A day doesn't really go by without us looking for deals on a third. Here are pics of our cruise last May from Florida to San Juan, San Thomas and St. Maarten. You can just about pick where you want to go, or you can stay on the ship for everything you describe above.

Thanks RickMG - we feel you. We're actually going on a cruise the week before with our children...so two weeks of cruising doesn't sound like something we want to do. We cruise once a year--we love it!
I agree with Belize-specifically the island, Ambergris Caye. Lots of great, reasonably priced restaurants, best snorkeling we ever had, and side trips to the mainland or other islands nearby. We stayed at Ramon's-really cool place, but there are others just as suitable but much cheaper. Lots of places have kitchenettes and will loan you a bike. Most people get around by golfcart or bicycle. Best tamales I ever ate, from a guy on a bicycle with a box on back. The ruins at Lamanai are amazing. And I fell in love with One Barrel Rum, made in Belize. Just be careful near the water tower, the crocodiles are will fed but not friendly.
