A Delta Airlines jet heading for Atlanta apparently hit several seagulls Monday morning, forcing it to return to Louis Armstrong International Airport in New Orleans for an emergency landing, airport officials said.

No, not really. Birds are a problem around airports. (Kinda like deer are to vehicles) But airports are doing all they can to keep birds and aircraft away from each other. The U.S. Air flight that lost both engines was really an aberration. Today's jet aircraft are designed to be able to survive bird strikes and return to the airport without incident.
