I am planning my first ever trip to NYC with my 22 year old daughter (we're New Zealanders so this is a BIG deal).

I don't know where to stay though. Does anyone have any recommendations for a hotel in the near vicinity of Penn Station, in the $250-$300 per night price range?

There are just so many to choose from and the internet can be deceiving as I have found out from past experiences.

Did you put this in the NYC folder as well (cross post)? Be sure to check tripadvisor or similar with your recommendations in case the place has changed, new management for example, and it's not what it used to be.

Sorry I can't recommend.

I heard the Bedford hotel is nice.

Along with the Manhattan penthouse suites.

We were going to stay at the Lucerne last year....when we arrived, they told me that I had cancelled our reservations. I told them I had not (I mean, why would I do that??), and they insisted I had. We had driven 8 hours to take our daughter to college and we turned around and drove 8 hours home. The Lucerne would never admit their mistake or even apologize. We were appalled.

As the above poster stated,go to Tripadvisior and put in hotels, and it will give you the latest reviews for each one. Do you want the Times Square Area? They are more expensive, but to me worth it because you can walk to so much. We stayed smack dab in the middle of TS at the Hotel St James for $150 a night. It got mixed reviews on TA, but we were only interested in a clean room to lay our head down, and it filled our needs, so the price you are willing to pay will get you something much nicer. The staff were very accomodating to us and we loved our 2 days before our cruise and 5 days after..I LOVE NYC!! Enjoy your time there!

I like a LOT of the B&Bs in Manhattan. You should google those too. Very charming.
