I have reserved resorts with RCI through HGVC however I've had a hard time being able to book places due to availability. My sister told me I would have a better chance, and availability would be greater, if I joined RCI. Does anyone know if this is true? We own a points based HGVC property in Orlando.

Thanks for your help.

We own timeshare in Orlando which is affiliated to RCI.

We've belonged to RCI weeks for over ten years and have seen its 'purchasing power' fall in recent years with poor availability of exchanges, especially for Europe.

My feeling is, and RCI deny it, that slots are being steadily transferred to RCI Points.

It costs a few thousand pounds to transfer from Weeks to Points and I am loath to do that.

RCI often phone us but only really to get us to bank our timeshare.

I feel that nowadays it is too much a one-sided relationship.

However, to answer your question, RCI Points may work for you but from my perspective they should have created Weeks this way instead of trying to force us to 'upgrade'.

My neighbor recently (Dec '08) signed up for an RCI points timeshare, and she has been totally frustrated in her attempts to find properties to trade for. She and her husband originally bought it through Disney, and she thought that would make it a cinch.

Another friend bought RCI on her honeymoon 20 years ago, and up until the past couple of years, raved about it. We have stayed at some very nice resorts with them.
