Default Toot - Toot, my own horn- I should be a travel agent!

My sister just called going from DC to Miami on a cruise but stopping for a graduation at Ft. Jackson and then visiting friends in northern Florida for a few days before their cruise.

Travel agents quoted $1100 each person (there are two)
Online sites quoted between $600 and $750 each

I dug and dug and the results:

$390 per person and that includes the rental car!

Wow! She could not believe it and I am tired after spending 3 and a half hours online.

Three and a half hours work well worth it- you should be on commission!

It amazes me that people still use travel agents..spend some time on line and compare..you can get really good prices

The only problem is if you were on commission, you wouldn't be so happy with a $300 fare!! But I know it works for family.

You ROCK! I am thoroughly impressed!

I had a somewhat similar situation - two of my friends (brothers) called me 3 days before the Super Bowl in Arizona in 2008, as they had just gotten tickets (an both big Giants fans) and needed a way to get there. Tickets were no less than $1300 each into Skyharbor from any NYC (and PHilly) area airport. I told them give me an hour and I'll get back to you...

I checked Vegas - still upwards of $900 a ticket. I checked L.A. and found them flights for under $250 each, round trip non-stop from Newark! I then found them flights on Southwest from LA to Phoenix, for about $200 R/t and also told them they may want to just drive, as it's only about 5 or 6 hours from LA and rental car was only a little over $100 for a few days. They ended up flying to L.A. and renting a car, they saved over $1000 each by asking for my help, lol! I got a nice Super Bowl souvenir, needless to say...

Its funny, i travel a lot and basically all my friends come to me when they need a hotel, plane ticket, etc. I'm like wow, they could look this stuff up too but i guess since i have the experience and they have gone to places with me that were cheap and nice they trust me. I wish i could get paid for this stuff.... haha
