My girlfriend and I are trying to plan a summer trip.
We'd love to visit Nashville and Kansas City but work and school will likely get in the way, mainly work.
We can take about 4 days off work and we want to make the best of it.

If we were going to visit Kansas City, we'd also make a little day trip to Lawrence, KS which seems really nice.

As for Nashville, we'd go shopping, visit a few clubs, etc.

If you had 4 days and could travel to Kansas City or Nashville, which would you visit? Why?

Pro and Con lists are welcome. =]

I've never been to Nashville but have heard rave reviews of it.

I've been to KC and here's my take on it:

Best barbecue (to me, anyway; it's one of the best in the nation I think most would agree).
Casinos - they had a couple riverboat casinos and since I love to play that kept me occupied.

Nothing much else. I drove downtown, had barbecue at Arthur Bryants, saw many of the city's waterfalls (it's the city of waterfalls) and it was nice and pretty but only took me a few hours to see the whole city.

Other than the barbecue, the casinos, and seeing the place once there was nothing to do there that I couldn't do most other places (e.g. malls, movies, etc.)

People were generally very friendly and proud of their barbecue and their city. That's good.

I don't know what you'd do for 4 days there, honestly, unless you found a theme park or something similar that could take you a whole day. Maybe a KC native will give you better suggestions about things I missed during my trip there.

Good luck, have fun wherever you go!

I love K.C. My wife and I spend close to a week there ever December as she has a conference there then. Lawrence is a great college town with a very nice main street but you wouldn't find much to do there for a full day. It's only an hour drive from K.C. and worth the visit.

This last trip to K.C. we kind of made it a Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives (the TV show) trip. I always stop at Arthur Bryants on the way in and out of town and we went to a few places from the show including Oklahoma Joes for the best BBQ Ribs I ever had. It's located in a gas station and is just the best. Also went to Grinders on 18th Street downtown (not the chain) and Mama's 34th Street Diner for breakfast. All these places are pretty centrally located and easy to get to.

You will also love Country Club Plaza for shopping and the restaurants. We don't have a Buca de Beppos or Houstons in St. Louis so we always try and get to one of those. For nightlife we hang around the Westport area or go to a casino. Nashville it's not with their entertainment venues. I've only been there once about 14 years ago so I'm not one to give any info on Nashville, but do remember I had a great time.
