Suggestions for Riding motorcycle from Chicago to Reno (routes, route, old)

I am inquiring about scenic routes, great places to stop along the I-80 route from Chicago to Reno this June. If you know of any places or roads to avoid, I will greatly appreciate your help.

Have you considered taking US Route 50 instead of I-80? Seems more pleasant to take the old route than the super slab.....
