Hi!! I am travelling to Minneapolis from Akron in July - I have been there before and I remember that the drive thru Chicago is a pain. Does anyone know a faster way that doesn't go thru Chicago. Maybe a route that goes around. I want to stay on the expressway, too.

Flights between Cleveland and Minneapolis are some of the lowest in years. That way, you avoid Chicago completely. Souhwest is about $135 ow which is not much more than the cost of driving 850 miles.

BTW, if you drive, take I-80 to Cedar Rapids, IA and I-35 to the Twin Cities.

i cut underneath chicago, connected to the 39 and ran up through janesville, WI and eventually cut into mpls

Fly. Quicker. No hassles with ChiTown traffic and once gas goes back up it may even be cheaper.

You can save an hour or more by pushing on through Chicago. I generally can make it without much difficulty by staying on the I90 toll road coming from the West as long as possible. Think there's only 3 or 4 stops and they usually aren't too bad. Coming from the East I think your route would be I80 io I294 to I90. Hit this before 3pm and after 10 am. I suppose I would defer to one of the Chicago posters if they have a better idea though.

Thanks everyone!! We can't fly because there are 6 of us and it is cheaper to drive. We got directions from AAA that take us around Chi. We are leaving at around 6 pm so we won't be in MN until around 8 am, hopefully.
