I'd have to say my favorite travel partner is God. I've been lots of places over many years, but every time, God was watching over me. I can't count the number of times He's done something in my life to protect me, usually from myself!

I know that everywhere I go, He goes also. His traveling mercies and hedge of protection keep me where He wants me to be, even if it's not where I think I want to be.

I have to say I like traveling alone the best. I took my first alone vacation about 3 years ago. I too am a planner, but being alone gave me the option of changing my mind about those plans if I found something else more interesting after I got there. And I agree with the others, being alone you meet more people - whether they approach you or vice versa.

My favorite person to travel with, mainly being road trips, is my dad! We both have this love for travel and being on the road. Most of my friends can't stand being on the road for more than 2-3 hours, so it's either I go alone or I go with my dad. But, we always have a blast anywhere we go.

In 2005 we went to Utah and Wyoming for the first time, and it was a truely great adventure for me. This year in July we are going to be heading to Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa, and possibly on the way back; Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico. Those are just the states that I've never been to before. Somehow we always find something to do for at least one or two days in each state.

I've never traveled driving alone, but I have flown across the US to Washinton D.C. in 2005 and to Montreal, Quebec, Canada last year. I love travel so much. I can't see how so many people can dislike it so much. What's not to love?

Rick, I'm with you! My wife is an awesome travel companion! She's a very organized planner and wants to "Get her money's worth" on vacation. She'll go from before dawn to after dark if I'd let her

I'm the motor mouth while my wife is more reserved. It works out well; she can sit and read or relax on busses, trains or in the passenger seat for hours on end. I, on the other hand, love to talk to anybody about anything (People will tell you the most intimate details of their lives if they think they won't ever see you again... )

Travel with others is a mixed bag. We've traveled with other couples with mixed results. Some have been wonderful. Others have been a true test of our patience. Traveling overseas with people who have no clue about the country they're in is our biggest peeve.

Being on a tour group has been mostly a good experience for us. (My wife even was a tour escort in Europe for awhile) The downside of group tours are the inconsiderate people that hold up the group because they can't be where they're supposed to be on time...

I like to travel alone for the most part, but if I can drag my mother away, I'd travel with her in a heartbeat. We both love the same cultural things like museums, most periods of art and such and get along perfectly.
I did enjoy spending a week in Paris by myself three years ago. I could go anywhere I wanted and I luxuriated in the freedom to go at my own pace. It was breathtakingly wonderful. My first trip to Paris was with family and I was stuck on a schedule and limited in what I could do. I didn't enjoy it. My mother doesn't like restrictions either and we move at lightning speed to do as we please, which is one reason I love traveling with her.
I also like going by myself and then spending a few days with friends who live in Germany and Holland. I make sure I contribute to whatever they're doing and make hosting me an absolute non-issue, totally blending in, then I move on.
When it comes to places like the Philippines where I lived and worked and places in the Caribbean like Jamaica or the Dominican Republic, I don't feel safe, so I'd go with a minimum of one other person.

I'll pick my dog every time. She never complains about the radio station, and does not tell me that my driving is scaring her.
