We're going to spend about 3-4 days in Canada later this month and I want to know what's the best way to pay. In the past I would just use my charge card most of the time and carry $100 or so CDN for smaller purchases.

But now the cards are charging a $2.50 or so fee PER TRANSACTION which can add up pretty quick. Is it better to just get some Canadian Dollar travel checks through AAA or exchange enough cash at a bank in Canada to last for the trip.

Thanks

We just use our ATM card to withdraw cash when we are up in Canada.

Cash talks, cards are safe insurance, and we've never been charged any fees for using the card.

Don't use American dollars, the merchants will rip you off if you do. Just use your debit card like the others said. I just traveled last week through there, only got charged once for the exchange.

I talked to both of my CC companies, Chase (Visa and MC) say it's a 3% per transaction fee, Discover says 2%. My bank, Well Fargo, says ATM withdrawals have a fee as well. I'll just do like I used to do when I lived in Germany, US$ in one side of the wallet, CDN$ in the other. I prefer cash anyway.

Thanks for all your help.
