National parks to offer fee-free weekends - CNN.com

All 147 National Park Service sites that charge entry fees will waive them for June 20 and 21, July 18 and 19, and August 15 and 16. Those fees range from $3 to $25.

Thanks for posting this. There are so many great parks out there that people can take advantage of in order to lower their vacation budget.

When I first heard this, I thought about going to some nearby national parks. But free admission means throngs of people are going to be invading the parks. In summer, the parks are crowded enough even with the fee, and I hate throngs.

I am curious about how many of the National Parks people have visited. I hope it is all right to ask that on your thread, Lisa, instead of starting another one since all the free week ends have happened already.

The Blueridge Parkway and Great Smoky Mountains are always free. These free weekends are really great for those who live in the areas where there is a charge. I remember paying to go on the Skyline Drive. My mother was with me and about 80 years old so we were allowed to use her senior citizen discount.

Now can we add state parks and no one has any reason to spend a bunch of money on vacation. I have always found these national and state areas are so much better than most commercial locations I have ever visited.
http://www.stateparks.com/usa.html This website also lists the Great Smoky Mountains, so it may list other national sites too. I am going back to check. All you do is go to the state you are interested in and click on the little green dots and the parks in that area come to the top of the list in a different color than the other parks in the state. You can also click on the individual park name and it will take you to information about that park only.

I don't know if it lists all the national parks, but it lists a lot of them. This is one of the most informative websites about interesting travel locations I have ever seen. I have added it to the favorites on my computer.
