Do you consider any time away from your home town a vacation or would on night or even a long weekend be considered a getaway?

When I was working I had 5 weeks vacation after 20 years (a 30 year job) and could afford to go on vacations.
Now that I'm retired I can't afford to do anything but "Honey Do" vacations.
But the house and yard looks good.

We go on mini-breaks throughout the year, but officially, we go on vacation (to include long drives or flying, hotel stays, dinners out, sightseeing) once a year, usually for a week. We are saving up for big ones (a trip to Disneyworld and to Europe) but always make sure we take our kids on vacation. Both my husband and I grew up in houses where "a trip to Grandmas" was considered a vacation. We want our kids to grow up with great memories and photo albums. We use all of our vacation time (and truthfully, some sick time too) every year.

I remember a job where they were cutting hours, and I'd come in just long enough to get the job done and leave again...only worked about 4 hour days.
May I ask you why you don't like to travel and see other parts of our wonderous country?

We usually take two vacations a year. Usually one is a full 7-9 days, the other is a little shorter, 3-5 days.

At least two per year and we like one to be domestic the other international

Then a few long week end getaways within driving distance, we try to get to Saratoga Springs each year for a long weekend during racing season

This year: 365 days. It's about right, actually. We'll be ready to stop travelling in a few more months.

Normally; Every second I can get. 2 weeks + Xmas and holidays is the standard. It is nowhere near enough. I'd gladly trade less pay for more time off (love unpaid vacation).
