Years ago a passenger come running down the jetway after the aircraft was starting to push back from the gate. Before anyone could stop him, he ran out the door to the ramp and was on his knees in front of the plane begging the pilot to take him. Not only did he miss the flight, he got to spend the night in jail.

I am sure the poor woman was feeling extremely upset. However, what so many passengers do not realize is that once the manifest is complete (usually 5-10 minutes before departure), the flight is closed to more passengers. Its a security thing and also load control, etc. the days of just jumping on a plane at the last minute are gone. Forever.
I am glad that they did not board, they would probably have been very disruptive to the rest of the flight. that said, I do hope she was accommodated on the next flight with no problem.
This is where there is one benefit to taking a smaller commuter flight (under 70 pax airplanes). I would routinely open the door back up and get that passenger on as long as we hadn't left the gate area while being pushed back.

While I have little sympathy for people that show up late, I think it is great there are people out there willing to help them out.
I saw Sun Country operating a DC10 out of Anchorage come back from the taxiway to pick up a late passenger once.
