You have a long weekend...say... 3 nights and 2 full days.
You have a budget of $1,000 for everything once you have arrived at your destination...food, hotel, entertainment etc.. This budget is for two people.
Travel costs such as airline tickets do not come out of the $1K.

So, here's the question....Where would you go and what would you do?

I've never been to New York, so I think I would choose to spend my money there.

I LOVE NYC! Was there two days before our cruise last July and then 5 days afterwards...as much as I would say yes, go...NYC can be very expensive. With only having 3 nights and two days, you are not gonna want to spend your time traveling from a hotel to get to where you want to be...or where I would want to be! Times Square is so much fun though, and I guess you really dont have to do anything but walk around and take in the atmosphere! You could do it on a $1000, but I would have some back up CC just incase!

NYC would be great but I think DotLib may be right...could push the budget though. Saying that, if you lucked on some good hotel deals through a travel website than it would work. I had a friend get some pretty good deals on fairly upscale hotels, in a good location, through one of the sites....i want to say she used hotwire.com. Also..if you reduced it to two night that would help.

Since I grew up just outside of NYC and spent way too much time there, I'd have to go with something else.

It all depends where in the country you are and how accessible direct flights are from your area. If I lived on the East Coast, I'd go to Aruba since the flight is fairly short. From the West coast, I'd go somewhere in Mexico. Can't speak for Middle America, since I've never flow out of any of their airports to go on pleasure trips.

Vegas. The wife and I roadtripped to Vegas for a weekend back in February. The entire trip including gas and food ran us less than $1200.

I do a trip down to North Carolina. I don't think it would be that expensive and, I've heard they have very good scuba diving there. It might not be as good at the Caribbean but, it would be more affordable to go there.

I wouldnt go to NYC. Just not my cup of tea. Vegas is nice, especially for first timers but i think its a little over rated.

For 1,000 you can go just about anywhere. Just a weekend is a little short for the Caribbean but you could make it work if you wanted. San Diego? Key West? Miami? Cancun? Punta Cana?
