I wouldn't allow my child who was too young to figure out they were on the wrong flight to fly unaccompanied, regardless of what they airline claims they will do to make sure they are safe along the way.

I agree. What is even worse.......... the ages of those kids the parents COULD HAVE requested a "ticket" or pass from the airline that gets them thru security to accompany them to the gate. One of our good friends has a sister that is mentally challenged. She is in her 40's and can communicate and knows where she is flying to and from and all when going back and forth between her parents. The parents STILL get a pass from the airline that allows them to accompany her to her gate and wait till she boards the plane. Their concern w/ her is she might wander off and get distracted doing something else and miss her flight.

I know my 10 year old would know EXACTLY what flight she was supposed to be on and would let whoever was supposed to assist her know they were putting her on the wrong flight. Okay.......... did these childrens boarding passes not get scanned as they boarded?????? The gate agent should have KNOWN that the flight did or did not have an unaccompanied minor on that flight and should have KNOWN when they scanned their boarding pass if they were getting on the right flight or not. Looks like SEVERAL people fell down on the job on these.

This is like the episode of 'Full House' where the Stephanie and Michelle get on a plane to Auckland, thinking it was Oakland.

Continental does not let anyone under 16 fly unaccompanied by that i mean if no adult is with the child you have to pay an additional $75.00 to $100.00 for the unaccompanied minor fee in addition to the airfare, which means you are PAYING the airline to escort your child on to the flight, to the next gate if a change in planes and finally releasing child to an adult with proper ID...they also will not let a child going this way fly the last flight of the day....if it's canceled said child is Continentals responsibility for the over night...

All of that said the airline dropped the ball as many other airlines will allow minors under 16 but older then 10 iI believe fly totally on their own as if adults and accept no responsibility

I wanted to have my 11 year old nephew come visit me in San Diego from NJ, but for some reason, if he's an unaccompanied minor, he'd have to have a layover in Houston. That's where the problems begin. Why can't the kids get on direct flights? There are many direct Continental fligths from EWR to SAN daily, but they won't allow unaccompanied minors on them for some reason. I'd love to hear why.

My parents tried for years to get the airlines to misplace me. Never had any luck.

That doesn't sound right as there are many direct flights from EWR to San Diego, that said during the lay over the kids are taken into a seperate room, TV, snacks until the connecting flight is ready to board.
I would call Continental and ask to speak with a customer service manager

Lol very funny!
Last and only time any of my kids went without me on a flight was when my daughter was in jr high, it was a field trip to SF from ONT for the day and there were 18 kids and 4 escorts (teachers/parents) that went with.
