Fabtastic link John, thank you for the smiles !

I was appalled however that you forgot the world famous "shin kicking" festival as past of the "Cotswolds Olympicks" and the "Poohstick World championship" ( I was runner up a few years back - I would have won but the judges decided in favour of my oponent , a cheating cute blond angelic looking child .... go figure , I'm not bitter , OK well yes maybe ) near where I live....

Robert Dover's Olimpick Games

World Pooh Sticks Championships 2009

And there is also the "Rock, paper, scissors" in Canada, "The Hollerin contest" in North Carolina, "The British Lawn Mower endurance race", "The Monkey Buffet festival" in Thailand ,"The nights of the Radushes" in Mexico,"The battle of the oranges" in Ivrea italy, "The water fight festival in Thailand", "Tunarama" in Port Lincoln South Australia etc...

What a wonderful world we live in sometimes...

Moose, I've heard of the Poohsticks festival and am impressed at your expertise.
Lest we forget:
The Worm Grunting Festival in Sopchoppy.
Sopchoppy is several miles south of Tallahassee in northwest Florida.
(While not centuries old, this is absolutely for real, not just some fake made-up tourist thing.)

The nettle eating competition is one I would definitely avoid taking part in though.
