Best tourist spots in the world
I know some very good tourist spots in the US, but I've never thought of going worldwide. Does anyone here know any GREAT tourist spots that my family of five could visit this summer. Thanks ahead of time.

It really depends what kind of things your family is interested in.

Really depends on what kind of travel...is it adventure travel? Is it eco-tourism? Is it beaches/relaxation? Is it cuisine exploration? Is it arts focused? Too many variables to answer your question.

We would like to be visiting cities with a lot to offer, where we can make a quick drive to the beach about 5 hours away.

come to the PNW, only a 'days' drive from KS (long day)
Beach (cold), snow, lakes, mountains, fishing, wildlife, rainforests, camping, sailing, kayak
When living in Colo, I liked WY (Snowy Range, Bighorns, Tetons) and South Dakota (Black hills, badlands). Colo is ok, off season
Lake McConaughy in NE is pretty decent and close (5 hrs) Lake McConaughy
in NE I also like 'car-hedge' (Alliance) and Pioneer Village (Minden)
There are some great sights of interest taking the 'backroads' in KS and NE.
With kids we made everyday an adventure. Internationally, the kids liked the beaches on Islands in Malaysia and Indonesia and Thailand. In Europe, they liked swiss skiing, sledding and skating + UK and German castles, Normandy coast and museums (France), war Museums in Belgium, and watching Italian women in fur coats riding scooters and smoking cigars. The kids called hostels 'foster homes for college kids'. The coed showers were a bit much for mom (Maybe OK in a younger life)
For a warm beach on the Gulf coast, I'm not informed.
You could fly to San Diego beaches in a couple hours. SWA has been running $65 OneWay fares from DEN

Contact your local travel agent for the same and as per his suggestion find the more information on Google for that particular place. One more thing first you have to ask your family about where they want to go. Know about their planning.

The world is nothing BUT the "Worlds Best Tourist Spot!" LOL !
Good advice from christopherderek80 - contact your local travel agent... its better to use an experienced professional who can really give you exactly what you are looking for...
The upside is by using a local small business, you are keeping your money in your community (even if it is to travel outside your community!) - and keeping your money in your community keeps your community economically ALIVE and WELL!!! Everyone should do their part to support their local small business first, then local big business 2nd, then internet (unknown community origin) last!!! Not saying not to use all of these resources, but prioritize to give the ones you need kept alive for the sake of your livelihood!!!

One problem you'll have with 5 of you going is the cost of airfare. More so, if you want to go to say Europe during the summer. They really hit you up then. Another problem are some of the so called beaches. I remember visiting Nice which is really beautiful and being shocked that their beach was composed of rocks. In Cannes, France, they actually have to replenish the sand because the tides keep carrying it away. The beaches in Brindisi, Italy had a lot of hard lava rock. Also, you mentioned driving to the beach. Gas is very expensive in Europe and, I doubt car rental would be cheap either. I think Sydney, Australia had some nice beaches and, there is plenty to do there but, the airfare would be really expensive. Plus, its winter there now or nearly so. You might want to stick to the U.S. Florida might be what you want. The airfare shouldn't be a killer. They'd have nice beaches there. Gas would be more reasonable than Europe. There would be plenty of things to do around Orlando or Miami.

Yes.....Orlando can be very magical!
The worst part about LIVING here is that I can no longer look forward to coming here on vacation all the time. The upside is with having annual theme park passes, you can enjoy the attractions any time you want to. This keeps me a VERY popular Grandma.
Disney has some very affordable specials for families right now. Check out their link and see what all is going on.

I suggest Tel Aviv in Israel which is like a mini-Manhattan but has a nice beach.
