Default Airline May Introduce Standing Room Only Section

Ryanair boss Michael O’Leary wants passengers to stand on the budget airline’s flights, in a bid to pack in more people and boost profits.

Passengers would pay less to huddle next to what have been described as “bar stools”, with seatbelts around their waists.

O’Leary has already held talks with US plane manufacturer Boeing about designing a jet with standing room.

He is now hoping to get the go-ahead from the Irish Aviation Authority before ordering a new fleet. A Ryanair spokesman said: “If they approve it, we’ll be doing it.”

O’Leary got the idea from Chinese airline Spring, which put forward similar plans — estimating they could pack in up to 50 per cent more passengers and slash costs by 20 per cent.

My guess is that this wouldn't fly (pun intended) with the US FAA which would effectively disqualify the entire fleet of that carrier from entering US airspace.

It sounds particularly dangerous in terms of both weight and emergency evacuation.

That may be an answer to those who are budget conscious, but I really doubt that adding the smoking section on the wings will be approved.

This guy (O'Leary ) is a criminal, a pirate of the airline industry.
The public should boycott rYANAIR, there are other low cost companies competing on the market.

For years I have been suggesting bar stools in airplanes. When is the last time you heard someone who has been sitting on a bar stool for hours in a bar complain about it.

I see nothing wrong with this idea.

Hey, what about all that cargo space? Since Ryanair does short hops around Europe you can just strap them into shipping containers and stack em up down there. The pilot can tell them to hold their breaths if they go above 12500ft.

Absolutely...and if they need to take another breath it's an extra charge, cash only.

All of these "crazy ideas" that O'leary comes up with serve one purpose, and one purpose only. FREE PUBLICITY. All he has to do is get people talking about how terrible something is, or how it would never work. The main goal was to get their name out there, and to get you talking about his airline. That will make some curious people do some research on how cheap they are, and maybe buy a ticket.

It doesn't matter that what he is proposing is illegal. All that matters is that you are now talking about it. There is no such thing as bad publicity. That's why I refuse to actually type the name of his airline.
