Yep as of June 1st..or here in WA is a driver license enhancement... although it is feeling like a big brother more so than a passport.

Yes. If you are driving, you need a passport, passport card, or enhanced drivers license (if your state offers them). If you are flying only a passport will do.

You will need a passport, no matter how you travel there. Folks there are great, but passports are needed to get in and to get out.

If you are planning to drive across the border into Canada, you MUST get a "yellow card", which is an interprovincial liability lnsurance card is required to operate a vehicle in Canada. You can get your card from your insurance carrier.

I just got back to Portland from from Victoria BC. I didn't get a yellow card, nor did anyone even mention it. If this is a requirement, it is certainly not well-publicized.

To be perfectly clear on the matter, Canada does not require a US citizen to display a passport in order to enter Canada.

However, as of June 1, 2009, the US requires all persons entering the US, including US citizens, to have a passport or other acceptable documentation.

So, if you plans on going home........

Canada exit and extry requirements link

As far as the car insurance that is a little confusing as far as requirements. I am understanding if you have US coverage that meets Canda requirements you are fine? Anyone elses ideas...

I carry full coverage and my Farmers insurance said I didn't need anything else.

Is this new? I've driven into Canada (most recently last summer) and I was never asked about insurance at all, much less a "yellow card".
