Default Experiences with "free" vacations?

Has anyone ever won a "free" vacation? What was your experience like?

I won something from AVC travel which I had apparently entered to win an automobile. They have options for a cruise or a Las Vegas trip.

Read the fine print. Read everything - twice. Make sure you don't have to spend 90 minutes for an "entertaining and informative" presentation regarding vacation ownership. Or something like that.

Don't send any money in advance. Don't do it. Really.

Nothing is ever free. Read the fine print. You might, say, win a cruise from L.A. to Maui but you have to pay to get to L.A.. There's always a catch.

Yes, I found out that this is a Time Share Condominium company. So I suspect I would have to attend a presentation for that (buying a time share).

Another thing that bugs me is the fine print which says, "Certain restrictions apply."

There WILL be plenty of restrictions. They won't let you leave the room where they give their presentation either.

My daddy always told me you get what you pay for. I'd beware.

Come on, you are grown adults. You should all know how to say the word, "no" by now. I had an invite to Vegas to attend a timeshare presentation. I made the trip worth it. I got married at the "Little Chapel next to the Court House."
They did not keep me long at the presentation. I had already owned a timeshare and I worked for their competition.

Other buzz words that will spring you from the presentation early are, divorce, foreclosure or bankruptcy. These folks want you to be able to pay for an over priced timeshare.

Certain restrictions tend to be income levels and if you're married, spouse must be with you.
