Default The Most DESOLATE and BORING Interstate Stretch?

I always used to think it was I-20 into Texas or I-70 through Kansas. But I was wrong. The worst is I-16 from Macon to Savannah Georgia. At least on the others you would see an occassional cow, pig, horse or barn. I-16 is just 170 miles of NOTHING but woods! No houses, no windmills- except for one town (Dublin) no signs of life for 170 miles! Any you know of?

Nope, but just having dropped a child off at GA Southern, I totally agree with you. I-16 is a colossal bore from end to end.

I'm sure there is worse....but I simply HATE having to drive I-75 between the Orlando/Daytona area and Jacksonville. It is a trip I make at least once a month and there is absolutely NOTHING interesting to look at for the whole stretch.

I40 through parts of New Mexico and Arizona is pretty desolate and boring.

As far as interstates go, you can argue for I-40, I-10, or I-8 in Arizona. There's not a lot of towns or trees, but you can see for miles in all directions. I would actually go for I-40 around the NM/TX border. It's pretty flat, no towns, no trees, nothing to see. It is also very close to the most desolate stretch of road I have ever been on, which is US-54 between Dalhart, TX and Nara Visa, NM.

I set my personal best record in ND on I-94. 138 miles of blinding snow w/o seeing another car. My previous was from yrs of night driving in WY, where I had gone 96 miles w/o seeing or meeting another car / truck. This is a bit scary in ground blizzards, as you are driving only by seeing the road reflectors, and never see the road surface b'cuz of blowing snow. You just have to be moving pretty fast when you come to an overpass or bridge, as the snow will fill up, and drift across the lanes in those areas. Not a good place to need assistance.

Funny. I've driven that stretch of I-16 half a dozen times and it never jumped out at me as being particularly boring, in part because there are not a lot of cars, so it is wasy to drive fast. But now that I think about it, I cannot recall a single landmark or interesting geographic feature along the way. Good choice.

The stretch between Roswell, NM and Santa Fe certainly qualifies.

I-55 from south of Cape Girardeau, Mo., to Memphis. Flat as a pancake (much flatter than Indiana, which gets unfairly ridiculed as such) and poor on top of it.
