Cool Italy in late October

It is possible we may got to Italy in late Oct. Wondering if anyone here has been during that month and how the weather is. Possible Rome and Florence. I know it is late to be planning it but there seem to be some good deals for that time.

I didn't go then, but my mother and some of her friends went to Rome & Florence in early November a few years ago. They typically work long-sleeved shirts, jeans, and brought a light jacket. They said that it was a great time of year to go.

Have fun!

Juni - thanks for the tips. I see you are in DC and that is one of my very favorite places. If we can't get to Italy this year we may try to do DC again. We have been 4 times for about 5 days each visit. Two time we were there for Cherry Blossoms, and have seen alot but still have many things we want to see and somethings to do again. My very favorite painting is at the Phillips Gallery - The Lunceon of the Boating Party - by Renoir , so that is on the top of my list for the next visit. Hubby always loves to eat at Union Station, and we would love to attend something at the Kennedy Center.

You might enjoy these photos taken during the cooler times of the year in Tuscany.

In my opinion any time is a good time to go to Italy...lol. October should be a fine month. I went in Feb and March to Sardinia (my boyfriend is from there) and while it was cool, it was still very enjoyable!

Default October is the perfect time for Italy...

The big rush of tourists are gone, and you don't have the horrible heat of the summer (the last half of August, Rome is deserted except for the tourist stuff). The only drawback is that the daylight hours are not nearly as long - but then sometimes seeing someplace in the dark or moonlight/streetlights can add some charm. Typically November is when the winter rains start, but be sure to pack an umbrella, raincoat/slicker, etc. just in case.

The temps are in the high 70's, low 80's during the day, with slightly cooler nights - a long-sleeved shirt or light jacket in Rome will be fine, but might want to pack a sweatshirt for time spent further north or in the higher elevations. If you are from any of the cooler parts of the States, it's a hoot to watch the Romans walking around in coats, sweaters, gloves and the temps are in the 70's. I saw my first "scarf person" this week, and I was wearing a short-sleeved shirt.

All you need to do is check the weather for the time of year you plan to go. You can check The Weather Channel or any Italy tourist website of which there are tons of.
