Considering a trip to Montreal soon and wonder if anyone has some inexpensive ideas. I know I can fly from Norfolk but am considering flying as far north with Airtran and then renting a car and driving the rest of the way. Any thoughts?
Oooops!. Just discovered that Airtran flights to Burlington, Vt. are seasonal. So informed by the less than English speaking, speed talker on Airtrans information line.

Nearly any fare into Canada will be saddled with significant fees and taxes. On the other hand, car rentals in Canada are generally less than you will find in New York.
Airfares into the area around Montreal (in the US) are pretty steep as there is little competition (or volume).

Looking at some random dates, there are some $250 flights into Burlington on US Airways.
This link should give a better idea of cost and flight times
