Where to go end of May/June in Europe or Mediterranean
I am trying to plan a trip, would like to leave May 28, 29 or 30th for a week or so. Hubby is turning 40 on June 1. Can anyone give me recommendations on good places to visit during May/June? I do not necessarily want to go during peak season when prices are at their peak. This will be for 2-4 couples.
We are going to Buenos Aires Argentina in December and San Francisco in March.
Would like to go to Egypt, Greece, Italy, Morocco or maybe somewhere else for his birthday surprise. Maybe visit 2 -3 cities or countries if we have time as well. Its really becoming a challenge, if anyone knows of any packages or websites please let me know. I don't want to go on a cruise, but if a 2-3 day cruise is part of the package, that could work.
Thanks in advance

The new must sees are Croatia and Bulgaria in Europe. Not as touristy as others. I've been to Croatia, just south of Dubrovnik. Its beautiful, lovely and warm.

I've been to Italy twice in late May and it was gorgeous.
This would indeed be a good time to visit Croatia. We were there in late June 2006 and it was warm but it was great swimming. Dubrovnik is both historic and beautiful. The island of Hvar is charming and has that Mediterranean atmosphere to it. (But the water is actually the Adriatic.)
Greece would be nice, too. Greece is not subtropical but it would probably be plenty warm in late May/early June. Santorini is a must-see.
If it is 2-4 couples, look into a short cruise, you might be able to get a deal.
I am not big on cruises, myself, but in order to see the islands, you are going to either take the ferry or a cruise.
I have never seen Greece's mainland, and would like to, it sounds wonderful, but for your husband's birthday, choosing a few islands sounds more festive.

My mother and I did an 11 day tour through Athens and the Greek Islands and it was the most wonderful trip ever. Package we used was through Trafalgar and was around $3500 each for most everything (some meals and no alcohol). It was a trip of a lifetime! I would not do a cruise to see the islands. You miss out on spedning any significant time at any one place. Santorini is incredible and you will want to spend days there. Hope that helps!

i would also recomand croatia for that term. Dubrovnik and island hvar. You can have everything in that period-weather is great- warm but not hot, nice historic and beautiful places to visit, and it wont be as crowded as during high season- so you can enjoy great restaurants without reserving it months before.

How about Yalta, for something different? I'm assuming you can "habla" "po-russkie".
No visa necessary for Ukraine, you can get a Delta flight direct from Atlanta to Kiev. For that matter spend a few days in Kiev. Offhand I would recommend to you the Premier Palace Hotel, it's quite nice.
Later on in the summer, how about White Nights in St. Petersburg?

Since you wish to be near the Mediterranean: Italy, Croatia, Southern France are good choices!
Another really nice place would be Malta! Lots of lovely places there, and there won't be too many tourists at this time of year!

Cascais, Portugal is my recommendation. Friendly people, wonderful food and outstanding ambience! Take a side trip to Sagres - incredible beaches.
