We didn't make it to Kenya even though it's right next to Uganda. We heard from many people how much they enjoyed safaris there. Unfortunately they've been having a serious drought and a couple we talked to a few months ago who had just been there said the parks were full of dead wildlife.

I felt very unsafe in South Africa except for the area around Clarens near Lesotho. The signs on the highways stating the area was high risk for hijacking was especially scary seeing as how the criminals don't just steal, they kill their victims. Beautiful country though.
A cousin of mine served in the Peace Corps in Lesotho. I think in Lesotho he felt safe enough as he hitchhiked there on his days off.

I've been to Kenya and Tanzania 5 years ago and loved it. Both are really gorgeous countries.

Iam sad to hear that. I lived there when I was kid which was about 15 years ago so I have no idea what it is like now. My family left because at the time there was a lot of violence in the country.

I'm sure you heard about the violence during the elections in 2007. We were in SW Uganda so not worried for our own safety about what spilled over into eastern Uganda. However, the thing we noticed was that there were few cars on the road as the petrol wasn't coming in from Kenya. The price of what petrol could be found had more than tripled.
