Default Amalfi Coast / Sicily reccomodations

Hi there,
maybe anyone can help me with some suggestions. I’m going to Italy for Christmas this year…going to spend most of my time on the Amalfi coast. Does someone know any great deals for accommodations while there? Hotels, apartment rentals, etc….

Really like Ravello and Positano – but still researching and trying to find the best deals and most beautiful locations for our visit.

We are also tossing around the idea to go down to Sicily – we are staying for two weeks and need to try and keep the cost down a bit and the Amalfi coast is pricing high for hotels.

Thanks!

Hi Funny,
my brother-in-law has b&b in Sorrento (at the beginning of Amalfi coast, as you call it) and if you send me the dates, I can ask him availability and prices.
If you prefer to stay in Positano (which is a bit more expensive, thought) I can reccomend some other friends accomodation.
sightseeing there is simple and complicated at a time: simple because is very little and there is basically just one coastal road bringing you anywhere from Sorrento to Amalfi, complicated 'cause hte road is pretty bended and very tight. Driving style is also funny if you are not used too: the best is you rent a small motorbike and ride carefully, enjoying the fantastic panorama.
Sicily is great as well, but completely another story...

Sorrento is very nice although it feels more like a Brit/German resort than an Italian city. If you want to be *in* the town, then you won't really be near a beach. If you want to be near a beach, you have to walk a busy road into town but it is not that bad. We stayed at a cliff top lower-price hotel (Hotel Desiree) and had to do the busy road thing, but it was worth it for the view and the beach, and the staff was friendly and helpful.

Positano is nicer to look at from Praiano than pay for in the town itself.
Staying inside the place itself is not worth it.

Ravello is gorgeous, but my favorite place was Amalfi. It felt more like a real town.
I agree about the coastal road, but being from Colorado it did not bother us quite as much as it might others.

Have never been to Sicily but from what I have heard it really does need its own thread.

Thanks for contacting me. We are not yet sure when we will go there, sometime around X-mas. Would it be possible to get the link of your recommendation or the name of the b&b?
