I absolutely hate staying at both sets of parents' house. The mattresses are all 40-50 years old and are long past worn out. And every bed in the house in the guest rooms are twin beds.

I would rather Priceline a nice hotel and have my privacy and actually be able to sleep in beyond 8 am in the morning and take a shower that is not in a COLD musty basement.

So far no one has admitted that they attempt to sleep on the Murphy Bed, old mattress on the floor or the carpet.

In my wife's family, every Christmas they are always packing twenty relatives in a small 1500 square foot home and half the people end up sleeping on the floor. After three days and nights of no sleep there are lots of angry and irritable extremely tired people. But the next year they do it all again to save money.

I slept on the floor once a long time ago, but it was during my Uncle's wedding (the night after the batchelor party)
I think a lot depends on the number of people and whether they are all staying at one house. In our family, we tend to live in groups; we don't have many who are isolated by themselves. We tend to gather where most of the relatives live. For example, the greatest numbers of my relatives live in either SC or GA. So relatives who live in NY tend to travel south, and spread themselves out among relatives, so we never had one house with 50 people staying in it. More like 5 at uncle so and so, 3 at aunt whatshername, etc.

In recent years we have become more spread out. When I lived in Orlando, since I lived in a small apt., my relatives would rent a room or a house when they came to visit.

Maybe we don't admit it because we don't do it? There's a thought.

Your poll needs the option of "depends on the situation"
If we visit out son, he has an extra room so we'll stay there. If his in-laws are going to be there too, we'll get a hotel...yes we always volunteer 1st

So my answer isn't on your poll...it depends on the situation.
