Rabritta,

Excellent info. if its the DL number there are no worried because the idiot in Texas with DUI would not have my same license number

AnneRk,

We both have a credit card but how much hold do they put on the auth drivers card? Having two cards hung up for the duration of the trip would be very very bad.

Thanks,

My experience is that they only put the hold on the renters card, but they take the authorized drivers card and verify it's good with a one penny transaction.

They usually only take the hold for the amount of the rental, sometimes that plus $75. It's not so much that even if it was on both cards it would be a problem.

For people who have high limits and are not near them that would be true. For those of us who consider having 1000 credit line as a big deal, a hold for several hundred on two cards would be horrible. Considering hotels do similar things.

This would be especially true if it were a week long rental where the hold could be upwards of 600-700 dollars.

It is sad that in this day and age, you need to have so much more credit than you need to enjoy life.

I agree, although I've never heard of them requiring the second driver have a credit card also. Usually there is just an additional fee, sometimes waived for spouses and business colleagues. Also I have found lately that my bank only authorizes the rental company's amount when I use my debit card but doesn't hold the funds, which can come in handy if you need to access the "extra" funds the company wants to hold or you want to use the same card at the hotel.

Exactly my thought! I'd not going to help enable foolishness/recklessness/illegality!
