I often drive from Miami to Philadelphia, which is a little over 1,000 miles, so I stop to spend the night in a hotel somewhere usually in mid- South carolina. Thats about the half way point. Takes about 10 or 11 hours to get from Miami to South carolina and about 10 hours to go from SC to Philadelphia. I usually will stop for food and gas twice during each 10 hour drive. Because I do it alone, I dont have to consider anyone else's needs so I guess it makes it relatively easy for me. If I'm hungry or need to use the bathroom, I stop.
My record is Syracuse to Atlanta - nearly 1000 miles in 15 hours. Whew. Other long hauls include Atlanta - Pittsburgh (10.5 hours) and Detroit to Atlanta (11 hours.)
I've gone over 1000 miles without stopping to sleep 15-20 times but not much over that. 1200 miles is prolly my record in one day. A lot of LA to Seattle trips.
The longest I've driven is about 6-7 hours, and I start to get itchy feet around 4 hours. I'm pretty sure I can do 10 hours straight but I would be irritated as hell by the time I got to my destination.
Would you drive the ten hours on Christmas Eve and then stay for three nights and do the ten hour drive back four days later, or is that too much hassle? What would you do?
Growing up we pretty much drove everywhere.
I think the longest was 21 hours with 2 people.
Did a drive across the width of the US in 3 days.
These days I prefer to fly if it's anything over a three to four hour drive.
A ten hour trip isn't bad. Not sure if I'd attempt it in poor weather conditions though.

Well I did a drive to Miami this summer with my boyfriend. We took driving shifts but we didn't both sleep at the same time until we got to my family's home in Mayo, FL as a stop for the night. That is 1,193 miles (we took detours in New Orleans, LA and Perdido Key, FL)
My aunt moved to Nebraska almost two years ago, from Naples, Florida. It was a 30 hour drive and her boyfriend at the time, and a friend of his handled the driving, without stopping to sleep. 5 hours a day? That is pansy stuff lol
They also did it in December, and my aunt had not seen snow in all her 30something years until they got to Chicago.
Back in 1984 when my great uncle died, and we had to go to Hollywood Florida for his funeral, my parents other than stopping for about 2 hours in a rest area drove straight through from the Cleveland area to Hollywood. In return trips from Florida in 89 and 90 we drove from the Tampa area straight through to the Cleveland area in about 18 hours. My step dad was cruising, and we hit the Ohio border at 8:30PM in the evening.
