I mean seriously. I was doing some "leaf peeping" today, and the areas in and around various mountain passes, that had hit their foliage peak, simply took my breath away. I knew the colors of fall were stunning, but when you see a mountain pass radiating with the intensity of reds, golds, oranges, browns, and yellows at its "peak" how can one even describe such a spectacle. I've seen a lot of beautiful places in my time, but I don't know if anything can top the beauty that is fall foliage.
I drove up the coast of Nova Scotia, north-east from Halifax, on Sunday afternoon, and the colors of the sky and sea were beautiful, perfect shades of blue. Not a cloud in the sky and that feel in the air that tells you fall has started.
I too love fall foliage, but I find the very best mountain and ocean scenery to trump all foliage. As Mikey noted above, Big Sur is AMAZING and way prettier than anything I've seen in terms of fall foliage.
One of the (very few) things I miss about living in the Northeast is the fall foliage. A couple of weeks ago, we went camping in north central Washington State and saw the aspens and larch at the height of their color, but definitely not the same.
For those who like the "spring blooms", the tulip fields here in Western Washington are a sight to behold.
Though, for my money, nothing can beat the beauty of being able to go to a local mountain and seeing the northern lights.

that photo doesn't look "amazing" at all.
Americans do throw all these dramatic adjectives all the time.
I love the colours of fall, Mother nature giving us one last blast of seratonin before winter comes.
I much prefer the fresh green leaves of spring, the wildflowers blooming along the road sides and in the woodlands. I've planted 400+ daffodils and tulips this fall so I'm hoping for a colourful spring around the house next year.
