How quickly can I get a passport? Can I speed the process up? I live in the DC area.

I recently got mine in 3 weeks without paying any extra. Of course, later in the year, it's likely to take longer and people get ready to take summer vacations.

Just got one back a couple of weeks ago. Took just less than 3 weeks with regular processing.

I got mine last year and it took less than 10 days. I was really surprised at the speed.

I got mine within less than 20 hours and the expediting service delivered it to my hotel right before I departed to my flight. Cost was around $350, but that was about 5 years ago. Google "expedite passport" and there are a lot to choose from.

If you need it in less than two weeks you can set up on appointment through the phone and get it that same day at the State Dept. They might ask you for proof that you are leaving the country (i.e. plane ticket, hotel reservation).

I applied for mine at the beginning of January, and I got it exactly four weeks later. Their estimated delivery time was between four and six weeks, if that helps.
