I am assuming that you are referring to "you get what you pay for."

Twenty five years ago, when airport personnel were pretty well paid, the airlines could pretty much choose and select who they wanted as flight attendants as there were many educated and qualified people who would like to work for them.

Nowadays, the pay is terrible and working conditions are not much better. Many people who would consider working for an airline decide to pursue other options. If a college graduate can make $35k, why accept a position at an airline where you will make significantly less?

In the past, retired military pilots with significant experience were rushing to become airline pilots starting at $70-80k and the hope of making a lot more. Do you think that you are going to get any of these pilots to head over to Mesa or one of the other commuter lines making $30k? No, they will head over to a freight carrier or remain in the service. The commuters are pretty much limited to pilots with limited experience.
