Okay, I have to ask others out there about these "space savings" travel bags, the ones you compress the air out of. Is anyone lucky enough to boast success with these?
I've had mine for several years, so perhaps they've improved over time. But, no matter what, air always seeps back into them rather quickly. I end up just removing them every time. But for some reason I haven't thrown them away. Considering how long they've been on the market, surely they must work better than they do for me.
We like to travel with our own pillows. It isn't easy, but we do manage to get all the air out and get our down, queen sized pillows almost flat using the space bags. That's the only thing we use them for, because they leave everything wrinkled.
We did buy some pretty neat nylon travel bags on ebags.com. They come in varied sizes, and keep your suitcase organized.
We find great big Ziplok type bags at Target. We put undies and socks, etc in them then roll them up really tight before running the "zipper" closed. They work great! No leakage after a week on our last cruise.
I have the same problem you do. I even complained to the company and they sent out replacements. They leaked too. I'm wondering how they would be any good for air travel considering the pressurization. When my kids were little we had balloons which expanded and almost burst due to this.
When I studied abroad in Japan, I used space bags to pack up my stuff. I think I used maybe 3 or 4 bags and of them, only 1 of them leaked. I then used those same bags for my move to Hawaii and none of them leaked, nor were any affected by the pressurization of the plane. I find that they are really just hit or miss- sometimes you get a good one, sometimes you get a bad one.
So you don't have a problem with air leaking right back into the bag?
I guess we've just been lucky, but, no leaks.
We have some of those huge Glad bags. I never thought to use them on a trip though, because the zipper strip doesn't bend easily. They are great for spare bedding at home though!
I have a half dozen space bags of varying kinds (travel, storage, 'real' and knockoff). They work fine for me, but I bought them recognizing that they have a shelf life. They aren't really meant to be opened and closed and shrunk down every few days. If you do a lot of traveling and use them every time, I think they will wear down pretty quickly. I don't think they are meant to last as long as your luggage lasts or anywhere near it.
Mine didn't leak, not sure what brand they are though.
