Israel's security is based on reality and what happens when it fails, not like some joke that our security is. That's why we have shoe bombers, underwear bombers and they don't. They take it seriously, we don't. The security is no better then it was pre 9-11.
I travel between 75K-100K every year and a frequent flyer on several airlines, typical anglo saxon male. I get patted down or pull aside and wand probably 75% of the time, along with gray hair ladies with walkers, a those cute little blondes with short shorts, tank top and flip flops with nary a place to hide ANYTHING.

I am retired military and was deployed to Israel for a period of time. Their security is top notch, whereas our TSA attempts at security are like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. I agree with need to add profiling to our screening. I also believe that the terrorists are focusing us on airport security so we can waste a lot of money and effort and their next target will be on the ground i.e. mall, subway, tunnel, etc. They have patience, whereas we rush in and put a bandad on everything.

I prefer the Israeli method to the TSA any day. While the TSA has a job to do they could do it much better if it were done the Israeli way. I'm shaking in my boots everytime i have to go through Israeli security, but when I'm done I feel good because I feel SAFE and that's priority. As for the racial profiling, I'm a blond, pale skinned Jew and i get pulled aside for questioning every time.

I think there's a happy medium which would include a trusted traveler program for the most frequent travelers who are willing to submit to a Federal background check, racial profiling, and psycological profiling.
