That said, I mentioned in another thread that I disliked visiting Phoenix and some local got so offended! I guess I'm not alone, since every other person on here seems to dislike Phoenix as well! I think that's the #1 choice here!

Plus both are obscenely hot and unpleasant.

You know...it is possible to not have enjoyed someplace without insulting the people who actually live there and those who actually enjoy these places.

You've lost all credibility with me.

What didn't you like about Omaha? I only went to Old Market once, so I don't remember a whole lot. But the other Times I visited, I enjoyed it. People in NE know how to have fun, and they're not shy about it. If I didn't know what living on the beach in CA was like, I'd live in Omaha.

I wouldn't say I disliked Phoenix, but it seemed like a city without a soul.

There is nothing worth seeing there. The restaurants are horrible, people were rude, just not a place I'd ever visit. The only reason we went was because we want to see all 50 states so after visiting St. Louis, we decided to fly home from Omaha. We were at the airport 4 hours before our flight, which is something we've never done!

A friend of mine is from there and lives in San Diego now. He's lived there for over 30 years and says he can't believe he actually lived in a place like that. He likes SD so much more!

Disappointed:

Virginia Beach. Noise from morning to night - planes breaking the speed barrier, no conversation possible. At all. Anywhere. Plus, it's just a beach not unlike North Miami Beach or anywhere along the beautiful Jersey shore.

Chicago. dirty. beaches of cement. might as well be walking around Manhattan.

Vegas. Where's all the glitz and glamour? some lights and water spurting? a casino is a casino - whether it's in Vegas or Mohegan Sun or Atlantic City (which I LOVE, btw).

Place I have stronger feelings against:

The Bahamas. Old Straw Market. desperation drips from the people. I felt under siege and wanted to escape back to the ship ASAP.

One place I wish to NEVER return:
Tortola. no desperation, the people don't care enough. There's an open sewer next to their house; they have their gold around their necks. Open garbage receptacles overflowing? no problem, fancy dress on the walk to church. Chickens pooping and picking at the trash. Who sees that, when I have on my Sunday go to church hat. UGH. Disgusting.

Wow? That's never been my experience. Omaha can't beat San Diego in terms of beauty and weather, but more opportunities exist there for regular people to live a comfortable middle class life.

Never had anyone rude to me there, wow, never had that.

We did that trip with St. Louis, and what a world of difference between the two! We both really loved St. Louis and would go back in a heartbeat. Nice people, great food and tons to do in the area!

While Omaha might have a very low cost of living, my experience was that of a tourist, not local. They might be good to residents, but not to visitors! I'm just glad I met a native who told me that my experience was not uncommon! I've only lived here for 1.5 years, but I'll take my San Diego with ridiculous cost of living any day!

As for Phoenix, at this stage of their development, the city is finally emerging from being a teenager/young adult. So is Las Vegas. They're young cities.

Phoenix showed how much of an adult it can be by opening thier first 21 mile light rail line last year, more urban development downtown. With continuing expansion of their light rail, this city will become more of a showcase city
even 10 years from now.

Las Vegas is building a world-class Performing Arts Center downtown, due to open next year. A good sign of maturity for this city. Las Vegas also has lots of local theatre which is, surprisingly, well-attended by the locals and the tourists should look into this on their next trip here, all located off-Strip.
Any tourist who returns home and speaks of going to some local theatre here or listen to the Las Vegas Philharmonic Orchestra at UNLV will definitely be a curiosity to others who overlooked those venues when visiting here.

Or spoke of spending an afternoon at the colorful Broadacre's Swap Meet on Las Vegas Blvd. North near Cheyenne.
