The Twin Cities area, especially Minneapolis. For a major American city (and metro area), it sure felt like a larger Des Moines. I should know, because I grew up in Iowa...lol. Although Minneapolis is a clean city, it lacked the energy of an Atlanta, or New Orleans (character, nightlife, etc.). Of course, it was during Christmas weekend 2006, but damn, many other major cities of similar size have something going on to entertain the locals and visitors during the holidays.
I lived in MPLS for over a year in the sixties (right before heading off to Phoenix) and found it to be a great place to buy drugs. Wait, did I say that out loud?
The last few times we visited the most interesting thing we found to do was visit Chanhassen for dinner and a play. We did a bus tour downtown once. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ, went to the MOA ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ and the Mystic (?) casino ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
Of course visitors to DSM are also ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

This posting pretty much summarizes it in a nutshell. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ...LOL. I'm still trying to figure out why so many people call it home. Yeah, I know the routine by locals--a great economy, good schools (well, I guess it depends on who you ask) safe streets, etc. But New York City its not (or Seattle for that matter).
Houston really disappointed me. I felt like the downtown lacked any sort of distinct character. The surrounding area was just one sprawled out mess. Now, to be fair, I was only there for a few days on business. But there was nothing about Houston that blew me away. It just seemed like another bland metropolitan. The natives seem to love it though, so I must have missed out on all the good stuff.
Orlando, anywhere in Texas except Fredricksburg, which is wonderful, Charlotte, Atlanta, Columbia, SC, Hilton Head.
