Go to the Pigeon Forge area in Tennessee. Great scenery with the Smoky Mountains and many, many home rentals that include everything that you need. Most have balconies and hot tubs to enjoy drinks and look at some wonderful scenery. This would be if you want a quieter weekend hanging out. If you want to go to a city and dine out, see live music and sites, I'd recommend New Orleans.

I will be spending Memorial weekend and following week in Maui I've never been to Hawaii so this is really exciting for me.

When we lived in Jersey, we would travel from the 3 area airports (LGA, EWR, JFK) all the time. You have a ton of direct flights from the 3 airports, so you can always pick lower airfare. Look into Curacao (much nicer than Aruba), Cancun/Playa del Carmen, New Orleans, or Jamaica. Go to a site like Travelocity, pick your departing city and see what they have available for those days. You can choose the Caribbean and it will come up with prices for the best deals there.

We've always traveled on holiday weekends (as well as pretty much every other weekend as well!) and have never experienced travel delays and crowded places. We're going to Monterey/Carmel this year for Memorial Day and can't wait!

That's an excellent suggestion. There are hundreds of really nice cabins for rent up in the mountains around PF and Gatlinburg where you can just relax. Three of we couples did that a few months ago and had a great time.

To the OP: If you're interested, send me a PM and I'll shoot a link to the company we rented from. The cabins were just as advertised, really clean and well-stocked with necessities except food.
