The extended family is considering a trip to St. John's next Feb. or March. Will the water be warm enough to swim? Is it very expensive? They are thinking of renting a villa. Most of them seem to be on hillsides, not on a beach. Are most beaches taken by the hotels? Any info is appreciated!

I once spent 10-12 days in the British Virgin Islands, we also visited St John.
Air temperature was warm, and the water was gorgeous in January.
We were mostly on a yacht trip, don't know how expensive hotels are, they were reasonable in the BVI, I guess you just have to do some research, try Tripadvisor.

I don't think water temps in the Caribbean change drastically, they should be warm enough to swim in all year around.

Weather In The Virgin Islands

Quote:
Water Temperatures
Water temperatures in the Virgin Islands do not change greatly from summer to winter, however the 4 or 5 degree change is noticeable to those acclimated to consistently warm tropical weather. In the summer months the water temperature is about 83 degrees and in the winter about 79 degrees.
