From what I read on the passport website, only federal warrants restrict you from obtaining a passport?

I have a Failure to Appear Warrant for a Misdameanor here in Arizona, I am in the process of paying it off. I am going to apply for my passport this weekend.

If I don't have my warrant taken care of before the trip, would I be detained/arrested at the border? What are the chances they will even run my name if I am a passenger?

For the record, I have never been stopped at the border coming back in, they usually check my drivers license and wave me through.

I will have a passport, if I get approved. My question is if I have a passport, but a FTA warrant, will I be able to get back into the country? My concern is being jailed at the border.

I live in Baja and everytime I cross back the BP agent swipes my Passport. If I were wanted by the police on a warrant or on a fugitive list it probably would show.

Go into any police station and ask if there is a warrant out for you...if negative then you should be okay...then again a Passport would NOT be issued if there is Negative info...all depends on your background check. They do not hand out Passports like a discount grocery card.

I had to show/give over my Citizenship paper as part of my application. They did return it via mail after completion. On my first Passport they only looked and verified I was a citizen...lost Passport at the airport in Mexico City and on replacing it they kept the Citizenship paper for some reason.

My next door neighbor tried to cross with just his DL and was snagged...now doing 25-30 yrs in Nevada jail...apparently was wanted real bad on a Federal warrant. The guy was working on Real Estate deals with Americans...always thought something was shaky.

I don't know about the passport application, but coming back into the US at the customs (at airports anyways) they WILL check for warrants. And just my luck I have a common name and DOB shared with some sleazebag and get hassled every time.

The customs guy that I talked to says their agency makes more annual arrests than any law enforcement agency existing, so it gives you an idea of the scope of what they look at...but I can't tell you for sure that that would include misdomeaner state bench warrant type offenses.
