A lot of these rental car companies charge up to $25 per day extra if the driver is under 25 years old. Does anyone know a car company that doesn't? I'm 24 and just missed it!

Thanks for any help.

I haven't been under 25 for quite awhile so I wasn't aware of this additional expense.

Here's an article that may or not help in finding a car rental.

Renting a car under age 25 is possible, but pricey - SmarterTravel.com

Most companies will charge the underage fee - in fact, i dont know of a company that won't charge this fee. True, Hertz has a temporary promotion for the Christmas holidays where they are waiving this fee, but don't expect to see this on a regular basis. It's just a promotion.

There is one company that will rent even to those under 21, with a fee of course. They have more flexible guidelines. Locations in florida include orlando, miami, tampa and west palm beach. Others including atlanta, dallas and lax.

If you are an employee with a corporate contract, often the rental car company will waive the underage fee.

Is there a rental car agency in the Tampa, Fla. area that will rent a car to someone under 21 for a couple of weeks?

The standard in the industry is a "young driver surcharge" of between $20 per day and $25 per day.

Enterprise, Alamo, and Budget all have this surcharge.

I'm sorry about your age issue. I think the rental cars justify it in terms of younger drivers causing more problems than older drivers do. I suspect the problems are not limited to just accidents. It may be that they tend to bring the cars back in worse condition than older drivers do.
