what requirements would you have for living there?

** This place does not have to exist in real life, it's more a question of, what is your perfect place?**

My requirements:

1. Mountains nearby
2. The temperature never get above 80 degrees
3. English is ATLEAST the 2nd language
4. History (ruins hopefully)
5. Cuisine mostly vegetarian

1.Lots of mountains
2.Languages are not an issue at all, if I like the place I will learn the language
3.Lots of history
4.All natural food, and not only vegetarian but different kinds of meat
5.Seasons change place visibly (snowy winters/sunny summers/flowers in spring/orange, red, yellow in fall)

1. Diverse population.
2. Ocean very near
3. Great restaurants/nightlife
4. Good, weekly farmers markets
5. No seasons. I hate anything above 85 and below 70.
6. Dog-friendly, with many dog-friendly beaches, restaurants, dog parks, etc.

I guess San Diego is perfect for me! Though not as diverse as other cities, where we live it's very diverse so it counts!

1. lots of history and cool things to see
2. doesn't get above 80, I hate sweating
3. has 4 seasons though I wouldn't want really bad winters or very hot summers
4. not super expensive to live in
5. easy to get around
6. would be nice if it was close to the ocean so I could go scuba diving
7. plenty of jobs in the area
8. airport nearby with good connections so I wouldn't have problems travelling
9. friendly people
10. good housing and good stores closeby so I don't have to drive miles to get to them

Mine would be:

1. Beach/Ocean would be a must.
2. Adult oriented atmosphere - does not cater to children or families.
3. No Snow.
4. A community mentality that is not stuck on strict religious principals.
5. Adult drinking establishments that play the kind of music I like to listen to (good luck on that one).
6. Rural area.
7. Older population, no colleges or universities near by.
8. Good quality, inexpensive food and a wide variety of fruits and vegetables all year around.

oh, where is this paradise?

I have to say that the Californian coast appeals to me.

Maybe somewhere like Cambria?

Lovely climate, beautiful scenery, the times I've been around there it wasn't too busy.

I'm not sure they're ready for me yet though.

Wild coastline ( I prefer my beaches empty and love them during storms)
Cool climate ( no hot/humid temperatures for me if possible)
Defined seasons ( sunny and warm all year round would bore me to tears , I want snow, storms, rain as well as sunshine)
A sense of history and native culture
Great Architecture ( not too keen on modern architecture generally speaking)
Historical/ Archaeological sites
Cultural attractions ( theatres, art galleries, museums, cinemas, opera houses etc... )
Fairly laid-back but not horizontal laid-back
Accessible varied scenery
Friendly and welcoming people
Not conservative in its outlook
Fabulous food and a "foodie" culture
Close to a nice city but fairly rural-ish

If anyone knows this Arcadia then please let me know ! Some of these traits listed above exist in some of my faovurite places like Brittany in France, the Dordogne in France, Tuscany in Italy, New England or North California but not all of them together...

LOL, I visited Oxford once and much of what you listed here seems to describe it, according to the impressions I received--I was ready to move there. But. . . as much as I love Europe, you guys just don't have the tomatoes (homegrown of course!) that I love so much--apparently they grow best here. So, my ideal place must also have wonderful tomatoes, fireflies, and honeysuckle, which we have right here in Missouri. No oceans though.
