Why would you? If it's a question of sanitation and cleanliness, does one take their own sheets, blankets, pillowcases, toilet paper....?

If it is a beach destination you might want to take your own large beach towel, that's the only thing I can think of.

Never. I travel using only a carry-on and a towel would take up too much space.

I know someone who DOES take her own sheet set and a comforter. She doesn't ever fly because of this.

I pack a microfiber towel for my hair because it is better at wicking water out of my hair than standard cotton towes. It also dries quickly and is easy to pack.

If I drive out to a martial arts meetup, I bring a large regular towel as well. When I stay overnight, I usually try to find a friend to bunk with at the hotel to save travel costs...having my own towel was just easier. It was a swimsuit coverup for the hotel pool....helped me and my friend keep our towels straight in the bathroom, it was dry when others were not....that kind of stuff.

If its a US trip then yes I take my own towel. I hate their thin rag like towels. Internationally I take a towel and my own pillow. You need to have some of your own home comforts.

Microfiber towels are great for traveling, they pack down to basically nothing and you never know if you are going to stop somewhere that requires a towel. On road trips you might come across hot springs, it beats buying one on the spot or trying to find a store near there to buy one.
