Default Tri-Cities ranked 9th most obese area in US......

I felt this deserved its own thread.

Vitals - America's fattest -- and skinniest -- cities revealed

I've long suspected that this area has a larger percentage of obese people than most other places I've lived/visited. Now at least one study backs that up. Yes, this is based on BMI, but even if you want to say that BMI is flawed to a point, it is flawed to that same point with every area they surveyed. We are still in the Top 10.

Really, a sad state of affairs. But we do have a massive fast food presence here (per person) and also very few truly "healthy" options for both dining out and grocery shopping.

I find it very ironic that the area with the unquestioned best weather in the entire Northwest has the highest percentage of obese people. But I look around when I'm out and about and I can't argue with the results of this study.

People in the tri cities dont like to walk around or work out for one they dont wanna be stared at its kinda a shy , sheepish town ive noticed the people who come up here from california have brought the workout craze and seen the town the past 4 years increase in workoing out in the weather however, they are in shape. most locals (tri citians , not californians) arent its kinda interesting/weird but wow there are alot of obese people here in the tri cities people dont like to walk around because its not much of a metro area as it is a suburban area , portland, OR would be waaay opposite of the tri cities people are out and doing things and theyre doing health things. we have all the "chain' restauraunts here especially the fast food chains. not good for the community if its really an insult to you (if youre about fitness, metro area, big cities, health )then move.tri cities is a really laid back 'white' town if you will. im not dissing on it or anything but that is how I percieve it. Feel free to give me your opinion , my ears are open. (:

What is up with all this “people are fat” stuff???
We are not fat, we are just under-tall. I would have a perfect BMI, if I was 8 feet tall.

I would suggest that most take this survey with a grain of salt. Question the parameters. If you have visited or lived in the Tri-Cities, as I have, this doesn't make any sense. Most legitimate research shows the most obese areas are in the U.S. South. Why the Tri-Cities made this list is a big question mark, and I would question their research.
