So, I am going to the tri-cities for the first time in my life. I have no idea about the community/people. Though I will only be there a little less than three months , I would still like to be able to enjoy my time as best as possible.

With that being said, first I need to find a few options for affordable places to live that are in "good" parts of town and are below $850 a month (looking for at least a 1 bedroom).

I am working at PNNL, so the close the better, but I am not afraid to drive or take public transportation (btw, is PT good in this area/safe?)

Could any of you all shed some light on some places that are great safe locations? Richland/surrounding area fine within 10 mile radius.

Thanks!

There are plenty of apartments on George Washington Way, in general look from about Safeway and north of there, on G-Way and Jadwin. Bus service goes straight up G-Way and in morning and evening goes onto the PNNL campus. Take a look at the thread JKK started about the "bad" parts of each of the Tri-Cities - bottom line is there is no "rough" part of Richland. You don't have to go out 10 miles.

PT here is Ben Franklin transit buses - good, safe, cheap, but they typically run one bus every 30 minutes, although in morning/evening commute times there are more. With the price of gas, you may well be better off getting something in north Richland, take the bus at least most days. You can get a discounted bus pass and that makes it quite cheap.

Something to think about if you are willing to drive 10 miles though is you could get an apt. in Benton City, smaller town to the west of here. Easy drive, very little traffic.

Once you get here you may find you can rent a room from someone rather than go with an apartment. Many apartments will want you to sign a 6-month lease.

Welcome to the forum, BTW, and hope you like it here.
