To anyone out there, I am trying to find out if jobs are easily obtainable in the Tricities?? I am a dental hygienist living in the Eugene Oregon area, the economy here is terrible, the state is about to go bankrupt. I lost my full time job over two years ago due to a layoff and I have not found any permanent work since, and hardly any fill-in work. My husband lost his job too, and now he is employed again, but barely making over minimum wage. We are now about to lose our home. I was told by a friend who lives in the tricities, that the economy is way better there and jobs are more plentiful, we are thinking of moving there soon. Is this true??

The economy is better almost anywhere over Eugene. Tri-Cities has a more blue collar job calling, and service industry, but there are some real nice areas, and dentists are always needed.

Tri-Cities is a fast growing area, and the demand for jobs and business will continue to grow.

Another important factor is the climate in Tri-Cities is far different then Eugene. Weather is a lot warmer, and downright hot. Also expect snow in the winter and frigid temps. The principle cities are Kennewick, Pasco, and Richland. Services and shopping are all over the place in the Tri-Cities. Kennewick has a large mall, but now all the towns are expanding their shopping with new commercial areas. It is the shopping hub till you get to Yakima, Spokane, or Seattle. It easily beats Yakima though.

There are jobs, a lot of them are engineering type jobs, there are not that many jobs for unskilled people. Dental hygiene jobs are probably available. What does DH do professionally, OP?

Pretty much the same. Blue collar, service industry, some engineering. If you are skilled and want to work at Hanford through various contractors, they are doing a lot of work at nearby Hanford. Government jobs too.

I don't know your skills, but they might! You never know what they are hiring for. Even community relations to ease tensions is a job.
